BaFin - Navigation & Service

Erscheinung:05.07.2024 | Topic Unauthorised business, Consumer protection BaFin warns consumers about the website bitox.co

The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) warns consumers about the website bitox.co. According to information available to BaFin, financial and investment services are being provided on this website without the required authorisation.

The operators of the website refer to themselves only as Bitox without stating the company’s legal form. The operator claims to be based in London, United Kingdom.

The content of the website is almost identical to other websites about which BaFin has issued warnings. The only alteration made by the operators of the website bitox.co has been to replace the opening sentence “Step Into the Trading Arena with Confidence & [name of website]”, which is displayed on all the other websites.

BaFin has knowledge that, when doing business with customers, Bitox refers to itself in a “certificate” as a member of the HF Markets Group. Among the other claims made in this document, Bitox states that it is regulated by BaFin. This is not true. Bitox is also using the BaFin logo in the certificate without permission.

A company called HF Markets (UK) Limited is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the United Kingdom. However, BaFin has no evidence to suggest that this company has any relationship to Bitox or the website bitox.co. This is presumed to be a case of identity theft.

Anyone providing financial or investment services in Germany may do so only with authorisation from BaFin. However, some companies offer these services without the necessary authorisation. Information on whether particular companies have been authorised by BaFin can be found in BaFin’s database of companies.

The information provided by BaFin is based on section 37 (4) of the German Banking Act (KreditwesengesetzKWG).

Please be aware

BaFin, the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BundeskriminalamtBKA) and the German state criminal police offices (Landeskriminalämter) recommend that consumers seeking to invest money online should exercise the utmost caution and do the necessary research beforehand in order to identify fraud attempts at an early stage.
