Erscheinung:28.06.2024 | Topic Unauthorised business, Consumer protection Identity fraud: BaFin warns consumers about the website activtrades.live

BaFin warns consumers about the website activtrades.live. According to information available to BaFin, the company ActivTrades GmbH is providing financial and investment services on this website without the required authorisation.

The business addresses named by the operator of this website are in London, United Kingdom, and Düsseldorf. The website also states a BaFin-ID. However, both the Düsseldorf address and the BaFin-ID belong to the investment firm Pepperstone GmbH, which has been granted authorisation from BaFin. This investment firm is not in any way affiliated with ActivTrades GmbH or the website activtrades.live. This is a case of identity fraud committed against Pepperstone GmbH.

It should also be noted that the website activtrades.live is almost identical to the website pepperstone.vip, about which BaFin previously published a warning on 21 May 2024 and which has since been deleted.

Moreover, according to information available to BaFin, neither ActivTrades Europe S.A., domiciled in Luxemburg, nor Activtrades Plc, domiciled in London, are in any way affiliated with ActivTrades GmbH or and the services it is offering. This would appear to be a case of identity theft committed against the two aforementioned companies.

Anyone providing financial or investment services in Germany may do so only with authorisation from BaFin. However, some companies offer these services without the necessary authorisation. Information on whether a particular company has been granted authorisation by BaFin can be found in BaFin’s database of companies.

The information provided by BaFin is based on section 37 (4) of the German Banking Act (KreditwesengesetzKWG).

Please be aware

BaFin, the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BundeskriminalamtBKA) and the German state criminal police offices (Landeskriminalämter) recommend that consumers seeking to invest money online should exercise the utmost caution and do the necessary research beforehand in order to identify fraud attempts at an early stage.
