Felix Hufeld will be the new Chief Executive Director for Insurance Supervision of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht – BaFin). This was decided today by the new Federal Cabinet in Berlin. Hufeld will be taking up his work on 2 January 2013. He succeeds Gabriele Hahn, who is now BaFin’s Chief Executive Director for Regulatory Services/Human Resources.
“I am looking forward to this exciting challenge”, says Hufeld. “I am particularly excited about the prospect of collaborating on such important projects like Solvency II and lending additional strength to BaFin’s voice in an increasingly important European and global environment. I am certain that I can contribute my knowledge and experience to BaFin’s integrated financial services supervision in an optimum manner.“
For many years Hufeld held a leading international position at Marsh, a globally operating insurance broker and risk consultancy firm. He most recently worked as Partner at the private equity company Westlake Partners, as Managing Partner at Agora Beteiligungen GmbH and as Supervisory Board Chairman of Inex24 AG.
The 51-year-old lawyer also brings banking sector experience from his time at Dresdner Bank AG where he was Head of Global Group Development. He began his professional career as a lawyer and then as corporate consultant at The Boston Consulting Group.
