How to reach BaFin’s Contact Point for Whistleblowers
If you have particular knowledge, information or similar leads about the internal affairs of a company and would like to pass this information on confidentially, please get in touch with our Contact Point for Whistleblowers. This is the best line of approach if you are an employee or distribution partner of that company, for example, and want to ensure the most effective protection for yourself.
We are happy to advise you about the possibilities of corrective action available to you and the procedures you can take to protect yourself from reprisals. This advice is naturally strictly confidential and can be given completely anonymously. In a first step, you can also contact the internal reporting office of the company concerned. This is often the quickest way to clarify and resolve irregularities.
Please note the following points before you submit your report:
- read the general explanations and further information on our website.
- check whether it might be worthwhile for you to submit an internal report at the employer concerned. Internal reports are often the best way to communicate information to the office that can examine and remedy the infringement the most quickly.
- do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or feel uncertain about something.
- we process your report while preserving the confidentiality of your identity. However, certain statutory provisions might oblige us to inform other authorities of your identity (e.g. if called on to do so by the prosecuting authorities in criminal matters or on the basis of a court order).
- if you submit your report anonymously and do not provide us with the means to contact you, we have no way of getting in touch with you if we have any questions to ask or want to inform you about the results of our examination.
- the documentation of your report is deleted three year after completing the procedure. From this time onwards, the documents pertaining to the case will no longer be available to serve as evidence.
- incorrect information about infringements given wilfully or negligently may result in criminal proceedings.
You can make a report to the Contact Point for Whistleblowers using the electronic whistleblowing system, by post, telephone or in person. No matter which channel of communication you chose, you must ensure that you do not provide any personal data if you wish to remain anonymous.
