BaFin - Navigation & Service

Giving information anonymously

Concrete information is important and can be instrumental in averting infringements of supervisory law and preventing the negative consequences of wrongdoings. If whistleblowers divulge their names to BaFin and disclose their relationship to the supervised company, a direct communication channel is set up between them and BaFin that goes beyond the mere provision of information. However, situations can arise in which people with particular knowledge about occurrences at supervised companies decide not to offer this information to BaFin for fear of negative consequences.

BaFin has set up an electronic whistleblowing system for such cases. It is technically impossible to trace the source of the information reported here. An independent body has certified that this is the case. To ensure that further communication is possible, a protected mailbox can be set up in which enquiries can be made and unclear issues resolved. The whistleblower’s identity remains anonymous throughout the entire dialogue. More information about this system can be found under www.business-keeper.com.

Please note: If you decide for this option but do not set up a mailbox or fail to check the contents of this mailbox, there is no other way for us to contact you if something needs to be clarified or if we wish to notify you of the results of our examination.

You also have the possibility of reporting information anonymously by post, telephone or in person.

How to protect yourself: where possible, do not use a technical device (e.g. PC, laptop, smartphone) that was given to you by your employer or is connected to the internet via your employer’s network. Make sure you have a secure internet connection. This is shown by the lock symbol next to the address line. Also use, where possible, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) in order to encrypt your connection and remain anonymous. When submitting a report – especially when doing this anonymously - we recommend that you formulate your description of the violation in such a way that, if follow-up measures are taken, third parties have no way of drawing conclusions about your identity from your account of the facts pertaining to the case.
